FAQ
What are Twitch global emotes?
Global emotes are the emotes every Twitch user can use in any chat, without subscribing to anyone — classics like Kappa and LUL, plus limited-time emotes Twitch adds for events, game launches and campaigns.
How do I get a Twitch global emote?
You don't need to do anything: global emotes are available to everyone automatically. Type the name in any chat or pick it from the emote menu. Limited-time emotes disappear again when their event ends — those are listed under Removed.
How do I get notified about new emotes?
The list is checked against Twitch every 15 minutes. Follow @BadgeDatabase on X or join the Discord to hear about new badges and emotes.
Why do some emotes have no “added” date?
Twitch doesn't publish when an emote was added. Badge Database records the date the first time it sees a new emote, so emotes that already existed before tracking started have no date.
Badge Popularity
Which Twitch badges people actually use — every global badge ranked by the number of users seen wearing it.
FAQ
Where does the data come from?
From the public API of PotatBotat, a popular Twitch chatbot that is present in a very large number of channels. It is the only publicly available source of badge usage data.
How are users counted?
A user is counted for a badge when the bot has seen them chatting with that badge displayed. Someone who owns a badge but never displays it, or only chats in channels without the bot, is not counted.
How accurate are the numbers?
They are a sample, not an exact total: real numbers are higher. Because every badge is measured the same way, the ranking is a reliable picture of which badges are used most.
Why can't I find some badges here?
Badges nobody has been seen wearing yet — very new, very rare or staff-only badges — have no count and are not ranked. They are still listed under Global Badges.
How often is this updated?
Once a day. The date of the last update is shown at the top of the page.
User counts come from PotatBotat: a user is counted once they have been seen with the badge in a chat the bot is in. People who own a badge but never display it are not counted, so real numbers are higher. Updated daily.

Privacy Policy
Effective date: October 15, 2026
1. Who we are
Badge Database (“Badge Database”, “we”, “us”) is a free, non-commercial fan website available at badgedatabase.com that tracks Twitch chat badges. It is operated by a private individual based in Hungary, who is the data controller for the processing described in this policy. Contact details are in section 13.
This policy explains what personal data is processed when you use the website, why, and what rights you have under the EU General Data Protection Regulation (“GDPR”) and applicable Hungarian law.
2. Summary
- We do not require an account, and we do not ask you for any personal information. Logging in with Twitch is optional and only used for badge previews in your own browser.
- We do not use advertising or tracking cookies, and we do not sell or share personal data. Visits are counted with GoatCounter, a privacy-friendly statistics service that uses no cookies and does not store IP addresses (see section 4).
- “Remind me” notifications are optional. If you turn one on, our reminder server stores your browser's push address and the event you chose, only until the event ends or you turn the reminder off. See section 5.
- Like any website, your browser necessarily sends technical data (such as your IP address) to the services that deliver the page and its content (see sections 3 and 4).
- The Twitch player of our 24/7 stream only starts by itself if you click Accept in the cookie banner. It then plays muted and keeps playing as a small player while you browse the site (until you close it), and Twitch sets its own cookies. If you decline, the player only loads when you click play. You can change your choice at any time with Cookie settings at the bottom of every page (see section 4 and section 5).
3. Data processed when you visit
When you open the website, your browser automatically transmits technical information to our hosting provider, including your IP address, the date and time of the request, the page requested, your browser type and operating system, and the referring page. This data is processed by the hosting provider (GitHub Pages, see below) to deliver the website, to keep it secure and to prevent abuse. We do not have access to these logs and do not use them to identify visitors.
4. Third-party services
To show the website and its content, your browser connects directly to the following providers. Each of them receives your IP address and standard technical request data and processes it under its own privacy policy:
- GitHub Pages (GitHub, Inc., USA) hosts the website. GitHub Privacy Statement. The footer line “Data last updated…” is loaded from the public GitHub API.
- Namecheap (Namecheap, Inc., USA) is the registrar and DNS provider of the domain; it also forwards emails sent to support@badgedatabase.com to the operator's mailbox, so messages you send by email pass through its servers. Namecheap Privacy Policy.
- Badge Database reminder server (api.badgedatabase.com, a virtual server we rent from Oracle Cloud Infrastructure, Oracle Corporation) handles the optional “Remind me” notifications. On pages with a Remind me button your browser asks it once per visit whether reminders are available. The server keeps no access logs and does not store IP addresses. Oracle Privacy Policy.
- GoatCounter (goatcounter.com, operated by Martin Tournoij in Ireland, servers in Finland and Germany) counts page views so we can see which pages are used and where visitors come from. For each page view your browser sends the page address and title, the referring page, your screen size and standard request data (IP address, browser). GoatCounter derives the country, browser and system from it and keeps only aggregated numbers: it does not store IP addresses, the full browser identification or any tracker ID, sets no cookies and stores nothing in your browser. To tell repeat page views apart, it keeps a random ID for up to 8 hours in memory only. Nothing is counted on the event editor (/admin/). GoatCounter Privacy Policy.
- Your browser's push service delivers reminders you turn on: Google for Chrome, Edge, Opera, Brave and most Android browsers, Mozilla for Firefox, Apple for Safari. The notification text is encrypted so that only your browser can read it.
- Twitch (Twitch Interactive, Inc., USA): badge and emote images, game box art and the homepage stream preview image are loaded from Twitch's image servers. The Twitch video player of our 24/7 stream is embedded automatically only after you click Accept in the cookie banner: it then plays muted, in the stream card on the home page and as a small player on the other pages, until you close it (after closing, it does not start by itself again during that visit, and never on connections with data saver turned on). Without your consent the player is only embedded when you click play on the home page; the player with chat only after you click “Load stream & chat”. Twitch sets cookies and may collect usage data in these embeds. Twitch Privacy Notice.
The site's typeface (Manrope) is served from badgedatabase.com itself, so no font service receives your data.
Links to external websites such as X (Twitter), Discord and Twitch only transfer data to those services when you click them. Their own privacy policies apply once you are on their sites.
Discord bot. In our Discord server, a bot answers the commands /active, /soon and /badge with public badge information. It does not read messages and stores nothing about the people who use it. Discord's own privacy policy applies to the server.
5. Cookies and local storage
Badge Database itself does not set cookies, and the visitor statistics (GoatCounter) store nothing in your browser. Third-party embeds described in section 4 (in particular the Twitch player) may set their own cookies. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings at any time.
Cookie banner. On your first visit a banner asks whether the Twitch player of our 24/7 stream may start by itself. Your choice (accepted or declined) and the date are saved in your browser's local storage for 12 months; after that we ask again. You can change your choice at any time with Cookie settings at the bottom of every page. Withdrawing consent stops the automatic player from then on; cookies Twitch has already set can be deleted in your browser settings.
Optional “Log in with Twitch”. With the button in the top right corner you can log in with Twitch to preview badges next to your own name. This uses Twitch's own login page and requests no permissions: the resulting token can only read your public profile. The site uses it to read your display name, profile picture and chat color from Twitch. The token and these details are stored only in your browser's local storage and are sent only to Twitch. Badge Database never receives them. “Log out” deletes them and revokes the token; you can also revoke access any time under Twitch → Settings → Connections.
Optional “Remind me” notifications. When you click Remind me on a badge or event and allow notifications, your browser creates a push address for badgedatabase.com and sends it to our reminder server together with the event's id. The server stores only this push address (a long random web address of your browser's push service, with its two encryption keys), the event id and the time you set the reminder. It does not store your IP address, name or any account. It then sends you a notification when the event's dates are announced (if they were not known yet), when it starts, and before it ends. The reminder is deleted automatically when the event is over, when you click the button again (“Reminder on”), or when your browser's push service reports that the address is no longer valid, for example after you block notifications for the site. You can block notifications at any time in your browser's site settings. Which reminders you have turned on is also saved in your browser's local storage, so the buttons show the right state.
Your theme choice (light, dark or system) and the date of the latest changelog entry you have seen are saved in your browser's local storage too. They never leave your browser.
The event editor at /admin/ is used only by the site operator. If a GitHub access token is entered there, it is stored in that browser’s local storage on that device only and is sent solely to the GitHub API to save changes. Regular visitors never use this feature.
6. Public Twitch data we publish
The website publishes information about Twitch badges obtained from Twitch’s public API, including badge names, images and descriptions. The Channel Badges section also shows the public username and display name of Twitch channels that offer campaign badges, together with those badges. Badge pages (Watch now) and the Top Categories page also show public information about live streams from the Twitch API: the channel name, stream title, category and viewer count of channels that are live at that moment, refreshed about every 15 minutes. This information is already publicly visible on Twitch.
If you are a streamer and would like your channel removed from Badge Database (Channel Badges, Watch now or Top Categories), contact us (section 13) and we will remove it and exclude your channel from future collection.
7. Legal bases
- Delivering and securing the website (sections 3–4): our legitimate interest in operating a functioning, secure website (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR).
- Visitor statistics with GoatCounter (section 4): our legitimate interest in knowing which pages are used and how visitors find the website, based on aggregated numbers only (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR).
- Publishing public Twitch channel information (section 6): our legitimate interest in providing an informational database about Twitch badges, balanced against the fact that the data is already public and limited to channel identifiers.
- Starting the Twitch player of our 24/7 stream by itself (sections 4 and 5): your consent (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR), given with “Accept” in the cookie banner. You can withdraw it at any time with “Cookie settings”.
- “Remind me” notifications (section 5): your consent (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR), given by turning on a reminder and allowing notifications. You can withdraw it at any time by turning the reminder off or blocking notifications; this does not affect notifications already sent.
- Replying to your messages (section 13): our legitimate interest in answering enquiries, or steps taken at your request.
8. Retention
Apart from optional reminders, we do not store visitor data ourselves. GoatCounter keeps only aggregated statistics (for example page views per hour, referring sites, countries and browsers) for as long as we use the service; the random ID it uses to tell repeat page views apart is kept in memory for up to 8 hours. Reminder data is deleted automatically when the event is over (or at the latest 30 days after the event is removed from the site), when you turn the reminder off, or when your browser's push service reports the address as no longer valid. Server logs are kept by the hosting provider according to its own retention periods. Correspondence you send us is kept only as long as needed to handle your request. Public Twitch badge data is kept as part of the badge archive until it is removed (for example at a streamer’s request).
9. International transfers
Some of the providers listed in section 4 are located in the United States. Where personal data is transferred outside the European Economic Area, the providers rely on appropriate safeguards such as the EU–U.S. Data Privacy Framework or Standard Contractual Clauses, as described in their privacy policies.
10. Your rights
Under the GDPR you have the right to request access to your personal data, its rectification or erasure, restriction of processing, and data portability, and to object to processing based on legitimate interests. To exercise these rights, contact us (section 13). Because we do not collect data that identifies visitors, we may not be able to link a request to website visits; requests concerning third-party services should be directed to those providers.
You also have the right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority. In Hungary this is the Nemzeti Adatvédelmi és Információszabadság Hatóság (NAIH), 1055 Budapest, Falk Miksa utca 9–11., naih.hu. You may also contact the authority in your own EU country of residence.
11. Children
The website is a general-audience information site and is not directed at children under 16. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children.
12. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy when the website or the services it uses change. The current version is always available on this page, with the effective date shown at the top.
13. Contact
For privacy questions, removal requests or to exercise your rights, contact us at support@badgedatabase.com. You can also reach us via Discord or X (@BadgeDatabase).
Terms of Service
Effective date: October 14, 2026
1. Acceptance of these terms
These Terms of Service (“Terms”) govern your use of the website badgedatabase.com and its related pages (the “Service”), operated by a private individual based in Hungary (“Badge Database”, “we”, “us”). By using the Service you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the Service. Our Privacy Policy explains how personal data is handled.
2. The Service
Badge Database is a free, non-commercial fan project that collects and displays information about Twitch chat badges (badge images, names, descriptions, objectives, availability periods and related events) and publishes announcements about new badges on third-party platforms such as X and Discord. No account or registration is required. Optional features include previewing badges after logging in with Twitch and browser notifications about badge events (“Remind me”).
3. No affiliation with Twitch
Badge Database is an independent project. It is not affiliated with, endorsed, sponsored or approved by Twitch Interactive, Inc. or any game publisher or brand whose badges appear on the Service. “Twitch” and related names and logos are trademarks of Twitch Interactive, Inc. All other trademarks belong to their respective owners and are used for identification purposes only.
4. Accuracy of information
Information on the Service is gathered automatically from public sources and, where Twitch does not publish it, added manually. Dates, times, objectives, eligibility rules and costs may be incomplete, change at any time or be wrong. Badge campaigns are run by Twitch and its partners, who may change or end them without notice.
Always confirm the conditions on Twitch before subscribing, gifting subscriptions, purchasing Bits or spending money or time to obtain a badge. Badge Database is not responsible for whether you receive a badge.
Countdowns and “Remind me” notifications are based on the same information and are provided on a best-effort basis. A notification may arrive late or not at all (for example when your browser, its push service or our reminder server is unavailable), and it reflects the dates known when it is sent, which may change later.
5. Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- use the Service in a way that breaks the law or infringes the rights of others;
- attempt to disrupt, overload or gain unauthorised access to the Service or the systems it relies on;
- access the administrative area of the Service without permission;
- scrape or copy the Service at a volume that burdens it, or present its content as your own.
6. Intellectual property
Badge images, logos and names are the property of Twitch Interactive, Inc., the respective game publishers, brands or streamers, and are displayed for informational purposes. The design, text, code and compilation of the Service, including the Badge Database name and logo, belong to Badge Database. You may link to any page of the Service and share short excerpts with attribution.
If you are a rights holder and believe content on the Service infringes your rights, contact us (section 12) and we will review and, where appropriate, remove it promptly.
7. Third-party services and links
The Service embeds or links to third-party services, including Twitch (video player, chat, login and badge images), X (Twitter) and Discord. “Remind me” notifications are delivered by your browser's push service (for example Google, Mozilla or Apple). Your use of those services is governed by their own terms and policies. We are not responsible for their content, availability or practices.
8. Disclaimer of warranties
The Service is provided “as is” and “as available”, free of charge, without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including warranties of accuracy, completeness, availability, fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement, to the fullest extent permitted by law.
9. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, Badge Database is not liable for any indirect, incidental or consequential damages, or for any loss of money, data, opportunities or badges, arising from your use of or reliance on the Service. Nothing in these Terms limits liability that cannot be limited under applicable law, including liability for damage caused intentionally or through gross negligence, or your statutory rights as a consumer.
10. Changes and availability
We may change, suspend or discontinue the Service, or any part of it, at any time without notice. We may update these Terms; the current version is always published on this page with its effective date. Continuing to use the Service after a change means you accept the updated Terms.
11. Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of Hungary, without prejudice to any mandatory consumer protection rules of the country where you live. If any provision of these Terms is found unenforceable, the remaining provisions remain in effect.
12. Contact
Questions about these Terms, removal or rights-holder requests: support@badgedatabase.com, or via Discord and X (@BadgeDatabase).
